Special thanks to Bob Morris' Blog for bringing this to my attention. According to a Reuters Alertnet posting, the University of Minnesota recently completed an eleven year study of adult-onset diabetes. One factor tracked was coffee consumption.
"… When the study of the Iowa women began, more than 14,000 of them — about half — drank one to three cups of coffee per day, 2,875 drank more than six cups, 5,554 four to five cups, 3,231 less than one cup and 2,928 none."
Some Interesting results were observed when comparing women who drink coffee to those who do not in the study…
- 6+ Cups of Regular Coffee were 22% less likely to develop adult-onset diabetes.
- 6+ Cups of Decaffeinated Coffee were 33% less likely to develop adult-onset diabetes.
The article was quick to point out that diet and exercise is the best way to prevent adult onset diabetes. The next time that someone tells you that coffee isn't good for you, have them read this article.
