Here's another option for people whose stomach cannot handle black coffee....drink a little Kefir each day. It is a yogurt-like drink that you can make yourself or buy in a bottle at your local Whole Foods or Wegmans. After ten years of not being able to stomach coffee, I can now drink a shot of kefir first thing and enjoy sipping my coffee for the rest of the morning.

I just don't think you can get enough of the essential oils and full range of flavor/body without using heat to extract it from the beans.

That being said, it does look like more low acid, stomach friendly coffees are on the market these days.

PuRoast makes a blend that they claim has 50% less acid then regular coffee.

While I would agree that cold brew coffee is is smooth with little acid or after taste I also feel it lacks depth and character found in hot-brewed coffee.

A couple years ago I purchased the Toddy Cold Brew Coffee System after reading several positive reviews on the product. After attempting several batches of my favorite coffees (each batch uses a pound of coffee) with varying grinds, brewing times, and varieties I could not get a satisfying cup out of the system.

Maybe I just like my coffee too strong, or perhaps I did something wrong, but I'll be sticking with the old-fashioned drip. (Maybe that's it... I must be an old-fashioned drip!)
